If you follow my Instagram feed you already know that I'm jetting off to LA for my next vacation and I couldn't be more excited. I've always had a soft spot for California with its sunshine, palm trees and casual, cool style. Here's an outfit I pulled together that's inspired by the Sunshine State and that I'd love to wear while I'm there.

PS: Since it's been 10 years since I was last in LA, I'd appreciate any recommendations on where you love to eat, play and shop!

Camo Shorts: 2 Ways to Wear them Day or Night

camouflage, Garage Clothing, Persunmall, day to night looks, 1 pair of shorts 2 ways, J. Crew, ASOS chunky rings, Clare Vivier leopard clutch, fashion, style, summer style

Day Look: Blouse | Shorts | Bag | Sandals | Sunglasses
Night Look: Crop Top | Tassel Necklace | Shorts | Clutch | Heels | Rings

Summer style is all about ease and staying chic in the heat. On days when you need to go from morning brunch and flea market shopping, to cocktails with the girls, you don't necessarily want to change your entire outfit. For this day to night look, the common piece is a pair of high-waisted camouflage shorts from Garage, which stocks lots of fun, effortless denim. Both looks play with prints, with the day look featuring a striped and floral tank from Persunmall and the night look adding a bit of luxe with Clare Vivier's haircalf clutch.

What are your tricks for taking a piece from day to night?

Shop 'Til You Bop

Shopbop is currently having their amazing annual sale and there are lots of great pieces at discounted prices. I've admittedly spent a few late nights "window shopping" their collection of designer goods, which is pure eye candy. If you've ever wanted to get your hands on items like an Equipment blouse or Cambridge Satchel, then now's the time! Here are just a few of my picks.

Spring Fever

Today I'm sharing a few things I'm currently craving for Spring. Lots of light and bright colours, leopard print and a cute umbrella, because let's face it: I live in Vancouver and it rains A LOT here! Click on the images to get more info. Happy Thursday!

Fashionably Fixated on...

Maybe it's the gloomy January blues, but lately I've been fixated on colourful bags. I have a lot of neutral handbags in go-with-everything shades of black, white, and beige, which I think every girl needs in her purse repertoire. However, on those days when you just want to add a pop of colour, these candy-hued bags would make the perfect bright accessory, and these designers know how to do colour well. Which one's your favourite?

1) Coach Legacy Leather Penny Shoulder Purse in fuchsia $198.00 USD
2) Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac in mint $195.00 USD
3) 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Satchel in aubergine $895.00 USD
4) Balenciaga Giant 12 City Tote in dark turquoise $1,895.00 USD
5) Proenza Schouler PS1 Medium Leather Satchel in purple rain $1,695.00 USD

Guest Post: Kate of The Fancy Pants Report

{ Top: Alcee // Jacket: Forever 21 // Denim: Level 99 // Heels: Steve Madden // Bag: Rebecca Minkoff // Necklace: J.Crew }

Hi, there! I'm Kate, the force behind style blog, The Fancy Pants Report. I love mixing prints and adding pops of color to my daily wardrobe. The weather here in San Francisco has been gloomy so I wanted to style an outfit that was pop-y (pun intended).

For more outfit posts and corny jokes, visit me at thefancypantsreport.com. Thanks for having me, Marisa, I hope you're able to enjoy some R&R.

Fall Wardrobe Updates

With Fall literally just a sleep away,  I've been on the hunt for pieces that will update my wardrobe for the new season. Riding boots are always a classic choice and a burgundy bag is an easy way to incorporate Fall's "it" colour, oxblood. Don't forget that accessories are the simplest way to modernize your look (how cute is the fox belt?), while sequined chevron and earthy wool provides cozy texture. What Autumn pieces are you looking to add to your closet?

1) J. Crew sequined cotton sweater $124.20 USD
2) Max & Chloe Avanessi One Love brown cord bracelet $275.00 USD
3) BB Dakota Dionne jacket $104.99 USD
4) Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac in burgundy $200.11 CAD
5) Tory Burch Calista riding boots $495.00 USD
6) ASOS fox buckle skinny waist belt $17.51 CAD

Vegas Style - Night

As a companion to my daytime Vegas looks, here is my style board for night. It's all about sexy black dresses and accessories, complemented with touches of gold and a vampy red lip. A clutch that does double duty as a cross-body bag will keep my hands free, and is large enough to fit a pair of fold-over flats for when I need to kick off my heels after a long night of dancing.
